For Badger fans
As a UK fan even I like this.
Lavoisier is having none of your shit.
Heeeey so fun fact: the woman in that painting is Lavoisier’s wife, Marie-Anne Pierrette Paulze, who not only acted as Lavoisier’s lab assistant but also translated English and Latin texts into French so he could read them. But she didn’t just translate, she pointed out errors in the chemistry in some of the texts. Her observations of these errors convinced Lavoisier to study combustion, which led to his discovery of oxygen. She was also critical to the publication of Lavoisier’s Elementary Treatise on Chemistry in 1789. She kept strict records of every experiment they conducted together and drew detailed diagrams of all their equipment. She also threw amazing parties and invited all the brightest minds in science so her husband could pick their brains. After Lavoisier was guillotined she secured all of his notebooks and equipment for posterity.
In short: NOBODY KICKS MADAME LAVOISIER OUT OF THE LAB.
Also, a side note: My historian husband-to-be pointed some things out to me about this painting. Notice that Madame Lavoisier is looking at the viewer, and all the light is on her, while Lavoisier himself is physically smaller than her, in shadow, and looking up to her in reverence. This isn’t a candid photograph- all of these choices are deliberate. The painting isn’t of Lavoisier- Madame Lavoisier is meant to be the central subject.
I can just imagine Lavoisier telling all his colleagues that his wife is really the one with all the clever ideas, and them patting him on the back and telling him he’s sweet for saying so.
I LOVE IT
i love that barrowman’s response also distances him from the contestant
"hahahaha women do laundry right john? you with me, john?"
"don’t lump me in with you, you fucking martian”
This is what I’m talking about when I keep saying that men have to deny the endorsement. This guy wanted Barrowman’s tacit support or agreement for his sexism, as part of bonding through humour. John went nope.
On a slightly unrelated topic, if you were actually wondering what the answer is, that symbol means not to use bleach on the item.
I’d have to ask my husband as he does most of the laundry.
My dad does most of the laundry in our family, true story. Also Barrowman’s face is the best.
So, because I am a rabid Seanan McGuire fan, I downloaded the short stories available on her website and when I read Forbid the Sea, and realized that Tybalt, the King of Cats, the rakish romantic interest of the October Daye series is bisexual/queer, I gasped.
(Colin O’Donoghue seems to be the Tybalt of choice, according to the internet)
My surprise surprised and saddened me all at once and that rush of emotion almost made me cry. Man, I long for the day I’m not surprised.
This is why bisexual/queer representation is so important. We shouldn’t have to be surprised to see characters like us in the pages of books.
You are so welcome. You are so welcome. And I am so right there with you. Why should we have to scramble to see ourselves when we exist in the world? We are real. We have always been real. We MATTER.
Reblogging for a lot of reasons a lot of which are the idea of Colin O’Donoghue as Tybalt.
Belle featurette from Fox Searchlight Pictures
AHH! CanNOT wait for this to come out!!
i love the fact that a black woman directed this
Black woman director. Black woman writer. Black woman lead. Love this.
Someone at my school made these in response to my principal announcing a dress code that, as usual, only applied to girls, and I’m kind of proud
